Meet Dan Olesen

Dan Olesen is a bold community-builder with a practical mindset and a people-first approach. With no party ties, he’s running as an independent to bring authentic leadership, fresh ideas, and community-driven solutions to Calgary’s Ward 1, leadership grounded in listening, guided by values, and focused on real results for real people.

He’s a husband, a father of two, and a pet parent to a golden retriever and a slightly judgy cat. His 11-year-old son is a curious tech tinkerer and a thoughtful observer with a love for rock climbing and curling. His 9-year-old daughter is full of energy, passion, and grit, most often found on the ice or in the gym. Both children bring a remarkable level of empathy for others, which keeps Dan grounded in what truly matters.

Dan’s wife, Erin, works full-time in community investment and still volunteers on the school parent council. She’s smart, steady, and probably better suited for Ward 1 leadership than Dan but she’s made it clear she’s not running. So Dan is. Because together, their family lives the values they hope to see in City Hall: service, compassion, and action rooted in community.

Dan isn’t a career politician. He’s running as an independent to bring authentic leadership, fresh ideas, and community-driven solutions to Calgary’s Ward 1. His campaign is about amplifying the voices that too often go unheard, seniors, students, small business owners, and everyday Calgarians trying to build a better life.

Why I'm Running

Dan is running to make civic life more accessible, amplify everyday voices, and build trust between City Hall and the people it serves because leadership starts with listening.

Balancing Life in Ward 1

Life is full. In Ward 1, so many of us are raising kids, working full-time, supporting aging parents, and juggling everyday responsibilities. I get it, staying on top of City Hall decisions isn’t always realistic, even when those decisions are affecting your commute, your business, your property taxes, or your kids’ future.

Leading with Understanding

As your Ward 1 Councillor, I see that as one of the biggest challenges we face not just civic disengagement, but civic overload. And I take that seriously.

Your Voice, Always Heard

Whether you’re deeply involved today or only become interested when something hits close to home later on, I want you to know: I’ll be there to listen and amplify your voice when it matters most.

Designing a More Transparent City

In the meantime, I’m committed to building tools, relationships, and strategies that strengthen trust between the city and the people it serves so that when you do engage, it’s easier, more transparent, and more impactful. That’s how we lift each other upThat’s what Heroes Inspiring Heroes is all about.

Take Part in Something Great

This campaign is powered by people. Whether it’s volunteering, spreading the word, or making a small donation. You can make an impact.
